New Picture Book Deal, Free Craft Workshop, and other News

Veo, Veo, I See You in the Horizon!

It is exciting to announce a picture book I’ll be working on with Latinx acquiring editor Sophia Jimenez. Together we plan to make this, a special offering for all the children that lived and still live in pandemic times. Stay tuned!

Cool Green Update

The response I’ve had to my requests for specific live plant material has been heartwarming. The making of the art for Cool Green is taking beautiful shape thanks to the help from live collections curators across the nation. From the National Arboretum in Washington DC to the University of Arizona Campus Arboretum to friends in Africa, I’ve been gifted with branches, twigs, flowers, cones, and leaves. It’s thrilling to pick which specimen to collage onto the art and which one to stamp patterns with. Take a sneak peek at the bark and leaves of the Sequoiadendron giganteum material now gracing the art of one of the illustrations of the book.

Acceso a dicha entrevista aquí.

What Educators say About my virtual Visits

“Our students adored having your personal insight and the chance to get a tour of your studio. They were affirmed by a conversation in Spanish, and so grateful for a time to feel special and seen.”–Alaina Bearden, 4th grade CABA teacher, Blackstone Elementary, Boston, MA

“The students really enjoyed learning about you, your books, and seeing your studio.  They couldn't stop talking about your visit after you left. What a success!”-Julie Platt, B.S, M.Ed., Marumsco Hills Elementary School, Woodbridge, VA

Spreading Literacy

It is gratifying to see your art promoting literacy. Most specially since the Maratón Puertorriqueño de la Lectura entices young readers on the island to join in all things reading on September 8, 2021. I’m also delighted to be featured as a December diversity author for Rally to Read 100, an initiative from Reading is Fundamental.
