May the New Year bring you blessings!

These next few months I will be visiting schools and talking to varied audiences. Throughout the years I have learned to adapt to reach the audience I end up with. At a recent outdoor book festival where I was asked to speak about Alicia Afterimage, I found my audience was mostly families with young children. It was late in the evening and the children were antsy. So, after a very brief introduction of the memoir, I turned to a large newsprint pad on an easel and asked for a young volunteer to make a doodle with a marker. I then turned the doodle into a character and drew a scene for it. Together, the children and I imagined what could happen to this character. By the time many had had their turn at the easel, the children had learned how a story starts.

Even though the program was not what I had prepared for, the evening turned into a lot of fun!

And the awards for The Storyteller's Candle keep coming!
